The Keystone Ranch barns are an amazing set of buildings to be able to use as a backdrop for some photos.  Ask us how you can work with talented wedding photographers such as Colorado-based Kay Beaton, who after calling Summit County home for many years, has decided to try the front range.  She loves to work and by work, I mean go skiing, hiking and sharing our mountains with clients who are mountain folks themselves, and need a photographer who can follow them along the mountain adventure chosen for that particular shoot.

You see, we are designing adventure wedding experiences for couples, families and planners wanting to craft personalized mountain gatherings, while saving both time and money.  When you work with our team, you’ll have a team of local wedding pros to help and guide your planning, design your event theme, palette and to work out details of design style if you would like.

When asked about the barns in this collection of photos, she says that “we have three weddings coming up in September all at Keystone Ranch, I decided before wedding day I should check out the accessibility of these beautiful barns. I have seen lots of dynamic photos of them over the years, but have never been there myself.

So yesterday I ventured out and learned how beautiful it is – although they are a little hard to access if you’re not a golfer or a bride! They are old historic barns smack between the 6th and 8th greens and it does take some “golfer etiquette” to get there backwards on the course. For couples that have booked a Keystone Ranch wedding, I highly recommend taking the 20 minutes to do couple photos out there at the barns!

I have photographed a few golf tournaments, and have learned to drive a golf cart backwards on the course…. I have learned lots of lessons from the beverage cart drivers as they do it all day everyday! AND with the brides I’ll be sure to keep the plexiglass top all the way down and not risk a stray golf ball before the reception photos!”

{ Real Mountain Wedding } Allison + Mark at Warren Station in Keystone, Colorado. Pre-wedding Photo Shoot at Arapahoe Basin.

Longtime local photographer Kay Beaton, took Allison and Mark up to the switchback opposite the Arapahoe Ski Basin before their wedding at Warren Station in Keystone’s River Run Village.  During the photo shoot, a gust of wind came through and blew sand and dirt in everyone’s face.  It was a moment that will not be easily forgotten.

{ Real Mountain Wedding } Meghan + Travis at Sapphire Point Overlook Near Keystone, Colorado

Meghan and Travis were married at a rocky outcrop that you can see from across the lake looking east as you come around on highway 9 heading south towards Breckenridge.  I never really looked for it before, but noticed it right away when I focused on it.  It’s a steep overlook that has views that drop away at your feet and lay out the Ten Mile and Gore ranges before you.  It’s no wonder why so many folks choose to have their sacred moment here and not inside somewhere.

Today’s photos are courtesy of Kay Beaton of Beaton Photography.  Thanks Kay!

Kay writes on her blog… “I always love Sapphire Point Weddings! Maybe because you can always guarantee amazing views – maybe because the Dillon Ranger District limits guests to 35 people. Maybe because I happened upon Christa and Cole’s elopement there 4 years ago on a magical December afternoon. Maybe because brides getting married at Sapphire Point must be outdoorsy and willing to brave the elements, no matter what time of year!

“My own wedding was scheduled there 15 years ago, but we moved inside at the last minute to accomodate both of Kirk’s grandmas and the 6 inches of new snow! We did get to Sapphire Point for the toast after the ceremony. And since then I have photographed dozens of weddings there and many, many portrait sesssions.”

“I love this photo and this ‘moment in time’ that I caught while Travis was waiting at the overlook and ceremony spot for his beautiful bride, Meghan. I was 30 feet away, and could see her walking down, but he was out of sight… he kept leaning to see if he could catch a peek… LOVE this moment when the groom sees his bride for the first time, and Travis didn’t disappoint me!”

Ask us how to help you plan all the details for your mountain wedding, including using Sapphire Point as an outdoor winter wedding ceremony location.  Yes, that’s right, go for it.  It could be a blizzard, or it could be the most beautiful blue skies you’ve ever seen on a winter day.  You never know, but you’ll have your closest friends and family with you.  Or not.  We love when it’s a super small, intimate event that is not a huge ordeal.  Those events tend to be more flexible and can adjust on the fly

{ Real Mountain Wedding } Kelly + Ali // Outside Wedding Ceremony at Sapphire Point Near Breckenridge, Colorado

“Kelly & Ali were supposed to get married next summer, but ended up eloping a few weeks ago at Sapphire Point. A beautiful little ceremony with 5 adults as guests, 2 children, 2 dogs, and 2 of us photographers! And I had to keep it secret for MONTHS!”

Kay Beaton wrote this blog just a few days ago, and we wanted to share it here, so that you could see what an intimate mountain wedding ceremony in Summit County could be like.  This overlook is between Breckenridge, Frisco and Keystone on Swan Mountain road and can be reserved for smaller groups.

“It was sunshining in the beginning of the very short ceremony, raining by the end, but a little weather can’t dampen the love my friends Kelly & Ali share! I can’t look at their slideshow without crying myself!”

And, scrolling down the blog, you can see the bride and groom showing their gratitude for Kay’s photographic documentaion and artistry.  We saw Kay in action the other night, and she loves taking photographs and having fun!

“Thank you Kay.  We were so fortunate to have such a great photographer.  And not only are you great at what you do, your enthusiasm is infectious and your laughter and the love you exude for your work is inspiring.  If we could all love what we do as much as you do.

Thanks so much for getting us the photos so quickly. I know this time of year is hectic for you.  Tons of love from us both, Kelly & Ali”

Yellow Aspen Trees + Rocky Mountains // Photography By Kay Beaton

After a summer of weddings at our flower shop in Breckenridge, we get to enjoy fall a bit.  We still have weddings for the next few weeks before it really slows down, but the fall colors really motivate you to get out and enjoy the outdoors.  Dina rode around the lake and up to Montezuma, just outside of Keystone, and we talked about how that area would be great for a local photo session.

I sent Kay a message and asked her to take some photos of her backyard.  You see, Kay lives near Keystone, Colorado and per our request, captured some images for you all to enjoy.  Thanks Kay!  Oh, and she says that if you mention this “Fall Colors 2011” blog, she’ll hook you up with a 10% savings.  Now, that’s sweet!

I asked Kay for a few words to share about this time of the year and how it makes her feel…

“Fall in Summit County happens so darn fast…. one day the hills are ALIVE with color, and then they are gone. Freezing temperatures, shorter days, and less moisture all effect this beautiful season… but it brings so much WARMTH to photos of all kinds. As photographers we avoid the harsh mid-day sun with most portraits and weddings, but in fall sometimes it can be as warm and golden as can be mid day because of all that yellow and gold brightening our skies. I LOVE fall! And so sad to see it move on so fast….”
