The Oh Be Joyful Lodge at the Breckenridge Nordic Center [Venue]

These are probably going to be the worst images you’ll ever see of the Oh Be Joyful Lodge at the Breckenridge Nordic Center, a new event venue available for rental very, very soon. I was actually delivering some birthday flowers from the daughter to one of the owners of the facility before popping my head into the construction zone. The workers moved fast and communicated while I was there snapping these pics with my phone.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the development and availability of this new wedding venue in Breckenridge, Colorado. it’s just up the road from the downtown area, and you fly right over it when you’re in the gondola headed up to Peak 8 to ride.

If you’re in town for a few days and want to take a break from the downhill stuff, head over to the nordic center in Breck, there’s one in Frisco too, and strap on a set of snowshoes or rent cross country skis and explore the mountains from a different perspective.

Please contact us to learn more about planning a wedding in Breckenridge, possibly using this venue, and possibly going snowshoeing or xc skiing. We’ll help steer you towards the best resources for your goals and vendor budgets.

So, hopefully these will be the worst pics you’ll ever see of this place. Once the construction phase is over, the friends and famiies will use this lodge to gather. And it will be good. And the photos? Much better. With people. And love. Thanks for reading, and please share with someone you know that needs to see this place!

[ How to ] Find Ten Mile Station on Peak 9 in Breckenridge, Colorado | Breckenridge Wedding Venue

Mountain venues are not always easy to find.  They aren’t at the crossroads of say, 16th street and Main.  Sometimes, they’re up maintenance roads that criss cross ski runs.  And sometimes the entrances to those roads aren’t easily seen.  I’m talking about the road leading up to Ten Mile Station, specifically.

We hear from the various venue managers around Summit County that vendors have been late to weddings because of them being unfamiliar with the venue, or the map was wrong.  Not all online maps are correct.  It’s always a good idea to call ahead and talk to the manager or someone familiar with the area to double check the best way to get to the venue.

Ten Mile Station

[ How To ] Find Ten Mile Station on Peak 9 in Breckenridge, Colorado | Breckenridge Wedding Venue, Breckenridge Hospitality, Breckenridge Ski Resort

From South Park Avenue, you’ll turn on to Village Road, which goes past Valdoro Mountain Lodge and the new DoubleTree on your right before the turn on your left.  When you see a sign for Beaver Run on your right (just past the DoubleTree), turn left into the parking lot with the tent.  You’ll also see a sign for the Breckenridge Stables.

Once you turn into the parking lot, veer to the left and look for signs that is Ten Mile Station and the Breckenridge Stables.  If you go left, you’ll drive towards the Maggie and the base of the six pack (six person chairlift), the Quicksilver chair.  Don’t turn left, turn right and follow the road up the ski run.

The Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center will be on your right.  The top floor of the closest building is home to the Imperial Ballroom, the most popular room for weddings.  Continue past the entrance to the Burro Trail, which is on the left, while the road climbs to the right.  The Burro Trail is a great hike and / or mountain bike which connects with the Spruce Creek drainage, with options to continue on the Wheeler Trail.

You’ll pass the Beaver Run chairlift, the Rocky Mountain Superchair (which transports skiers to Peak 8), and the Falcon Chair (which services Peak 10).  When you see the Falcon chair, you’ll see Ten Mile Station on your right.  Most guests are asked to park down by the Falcon chair and walk the drive up to the venue.

The Breckenridge Stables runs its summer opterations on Peak 9, and you’ll pass it before reaching the Falcon chair.  Drive slow, be safe and continue past the venue and you can reach a nice overlook up by the Peak 9 Restaurant.  The road gets more rough the higher you go, so don’t continue up the road without adequate clearance.  A 4WD is recommended for the higher drive, but is not necessary to reach Ten Mile Station.

I was going through all the real mountain weddings, engagement sessions and styled shoots we’re preparing to share, but I saw these and decided to share them instead.  Fair warning, these images all don’t match.  They aren’t as polished as so many of the images you see from the professional wedding photographers.  These are iPhone photos.  Some of my earliest ones.

What does that mean?  Well, I have been experimenting with looks, borders, and filters a lot since then.  And, I feel that my images have gotten better over time.  So, now you now the backstory to the mishmosh of images.  Now, on to the good stuff.

A large grass lawn with several large trees is just to the right of the house in the image above.  That is the Barney Ford Museum.  It is a popular wedding venue during the warm summer months.

Right across the street from the Blue River Plaza and the Breckenridge Welcome Center is the Barney Ford Museum.  We’ll save his story for a later featured blog.  He’s just one of many characters in the vast history of Breckenridge lore.

With snow boots and warm coats,  the Lomax Placer site can be visited for a winter photo shoot.  However, the windows will be boarded up, and no demonstrations or tours are available.  But, you can still go stand by cabins and take some photos!

There are mining relics scattered throughout the surrounding areas, so be careful with any children that might visit the area with you.  Across the street is the Mountain Thunder trail that connects with the singletrack that runs through the Cucumber Gulch and nordic center.  But, that’s for another blog.  Thanks for reading!

{ Real Mountain Wedding } Aly + Matt at Sevens in Breckenridge, Colorado

Looks like Alyson and Matt rolled nothing but lucky seven’s when they chose the intimate and elegant Seven’s Restaurant for their 2011 late summer wedding ceremony and reception!  Seven’s, operated by Vail Resorts / Breckenridge Hospitality is located in the new Grand Lodge at Peak 7, an offering from Breckenridge Grand Vacations, lies at the base of Breckenridge Ski Resort’s Peak 7 at 10,010 feet in the Ten Mile Range of Summit County, Colorado.

If you are keeping your list is less than 120 guests, this venue is the perfect choice anytime of year.  With over 300 days of sunshine and 300” of snow a year, there isn’t  really an ugly day on the calendar in the charming town of Breckenridge. The mountains and vast panoramic views take center stage.

Alyson and Matt got super lucky again when it came to the glorious blue skies and just a handful of clouds that happened to pass by for their ceremony.  (Make  sure you have a back up plan for inclement weather as rain is pretty common every afternoon in the high country in the summer.)

Sophisticated, elegant, classic and stunning are the words that come to mind when I was looking through the hundreds of beautiful photos by photographer Rachel Olsen //     Facebook       Twitter        Website

Rachel says “My goal is to be welcomed into your moments, your world and your lives, in order to create photographs that represent the real you. I strive to capture the emotions, interactions and energy shared between individuals, so that when you look at your images you feel as if they are not only pictures, but are impressions of the feelings and moments you share together.’”

Setting the mood in the warm mountain air were the classical trio that played during the ceremony and cocktail hour on the patio and the ultra sleek and modern floral table arrangements by Breckenridge’s own Petal and Bean florists who also hand made the bouquets and boutonnières.

Alyson, Matt and all of their lucky guests were treated to a wedding that won’t soon be forgotten.  The attention to details weren’t over looked either… from the silver ink handwritten name cards, to the pale shades of yellow and orange piped buttercream frosting on the cupcakes.

With a very clean and serene color scheme of grays and blues, Aly and Matt’s wedding took on a very sophisticated feel.  It wasn’t over done, and as they say, sometimes less is more.  Alyson was simply breathtaking in her strapless gown and her long blond hair gently curled and pulled back.

Looking back on her day Alyson said “I really enjoyed having a moment alone  (with her soon to be husband, Matt) before actually getting married.  It made it much more special in the long run.” She also said that in hind sight she wished that she would have prepared her older, out of town guests for the effects of the high altitude. She said “It was very difficult for me to watch my dad struggle with crappy nights of sleep and breathing difficulties.’

Her best advice to couples about to tie the knot: “ SMILE!!!!!  Be happy cause who cares what goes wrong?   It’s just a wedding and if you’re happy then everyone else will be.  I took a shot of whiskey before leaving the house where I got ready because I knew this was going to be the best day of my life and I wanted to be super relaxed and enjoy it…..and I was and did.  Who couldn’t LOVE getting married in the mountains???”
