Leah and Dustin in the Ice Castle in Breckenridge, Colorado

In this amazing image you see Leah and Dustin in the Ice Castle in Breckenridge, Colorado. Katie Girtman of Studio Kiva Photography, a Breckenridge wedding photographer,  took the couple to this surreal location in downtown Breck this past weekend. Great job!

The First Look. Kristin + Chris at the Lodge and Spa at Breckenridge

I was on my way out the door when I saw the first look happening, so I decided to get my own version of the scene before leaving.  We helped with the personal flowers; bridal bouquets, corsages and boutonierres, and also did the centerpieces for the reception.  Check out more photos on our blog and on our social feeds.  Please contact us with any questions or specific request.  Thanks!

[ How to ] Find Ten Mile Station on Peak 9 in Breckenridge, Colorado | Breckenridge Wedding Venue

Mountain venues are not always easy to find.  They aren’t at the crossroads of say, 16th street and Main.  Sometimes, they’re up maintenance roads that criss cross ski runs.  And sometimes the entrances to those roads aren’t easily seen.  I’m talking about the road leading up to Ten Mile Station, specifically.

We hear from the various venue managers around Summit County that vendors have been late to weddings because of them being unfamiliar with the venue, or the map was wrong.  Not all online maps are correct.  It’s always a good idea to call ahead and talk to the manager or someone familiar with the area to double check the best way to get to the venue.

Ten Mile Station

From South Park Avenue, you’ll turn on to Village Road, which goes past Valdoro Mountain Lodge and the new DoubleTree on your right before the turn on your left.  When you see a sign for Beaver Run on your right (just past the DoubleTree), turn left into the parking lot with the tent.  You’ll also see a sign for the Breckenridge Stables.

Once you turn into the parking lot, veer to the left and look for signs that is Ten Mile Station and the Breckenridge Stables.  If you go left, you’ll drive towards the Maggie and the base of the six pack (six person chairlift), the Quicksilver chair.  Don’t turn left, turn right and follow the road up the ski run.

The Beaver Run Resort and Conference Center will be on your right.  The top floor of the closest building is home to the Imperial Ballroom, the most popular room for weddings.  Continue past the entrance to the Burro Trail, which is on the left, while the road climbs to the right.  The Burro Trail is a great hike and / or mountain bike which connects with the Spruce Creek drainage, with options to continue on the Wheeler Trail.

You’ll pass the Beaver Run chairlift, the Rocky Mountain Superchair (which transports skiers to Peak 8), and the Falcon Chair (which services Peak 10).  When you see the Falcon chair, you’ll see Ten Mile Station on your right.  Most guests are asked to park down by the Falcon chair and walk the drive up to the venue.

The Breckenridge Stables runs its summer opterations on Peak 9, and you’ll pass it before reaching the Falcon chair.  Drive slow, be safe and continue past the venue and you can reach a nice overlook up by the Peak 9 Restaurant.  The road gets more rough the higher you go, so don’t continue up the road without adequate clearance.  A 4WD is recommended for the higher drive, but is not necessary to reach Ten Mile Station.

[ Vendor ] Studio Kiva Photography // Winter Wedding Photo Shoots at the Ice Castles in Silverthorne: Part One

This week, we’ll be sharing two couples photographed at this winter wedding wonderland in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.  Breckenridge-based photographer Katie Girtman of Studio Kiva, took her destination wedding clients to the Silverthorne Ice Castles for a few photos among the towering ice structures.  This surprise sensation thrust tiny Silverthorne into the spotlight as the ice sculptures were seen on various media channels, in thousands of pictures and even a music video.

Destination weddings in the winter just got an added bonus.  You always had the Ice Sculpting Championships in Breckenridge, but those only last for a month, so only a few weddings get to enjoy the scene.  This option extends the unique winter landscape that will surely make your friends and family’s jaw drop when they see them.

Katie says, “It’s the new hot thing!  Wedding Dresses in all colors are becoming more and more popular every day.”  Exactly.  Sometimes, you just have to go with your gut, make your own style and show your personality through your choice of wedding dress, location, and even style of photography.  Ask us how we can help you plan the winter wedding of your dreams.

{ Real Mountain Wedding } Karly + Christian // Imperial Ballroom at the Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge, Colorado

This Breckenridge wedding was featured in Brides Magazine a while back, and wanted to make sure that we put it on our blog to share with everyone.  Text excerpts from Lauren Matthew’s online article, “Karly and Christian (who’s from Argentina) met in Breckenridge, when he was living there on a work visa and she was visiting from Denver one weekend. ‘Breckenridge was the place that brought us together,’ she says. ‘We had to get married there!’ “

“I loved the crystal details on my dress,” Karly says of her Priscilla of Boston gown. “They reminded me of icicles in winter.”  We love that the new mountain bride embraces the elements including ice as being part of the landscape, and therefore an option when decorating your event.

A small, bright yellow church with a red door in downtown Breckenridge was chosen as the ceremony location for this Rocky Mountain bride and her groom.  ”The ceremony was held at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, which was built in 1881. ‘We loved that the church had been a part of the Breckenridge community for so long,” Karly says. “Plus, it was the perfect size for our 70 guests’.”

“The groom’s family traveled from Argentina for the wedding, so the couple recited their vows in both Spanish and English. The ceremony also included a passage from Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist, read by the bride’s sisters. ‘It reflected the journey Christian and I have taken to be together,’ Karly says.”

The little ones carry out their roles.

Karly’s bouquet was made of purple Vanda Orchids, white Tulips, and Anemones. Christian’s boutonierre was made using a  single Vanda Orchid and a Tulip.  Anemones are a popular winter wedding flower for mountain brides in Colorado.

And just like I promised on our Facebook page, here’s the answer to what this picture is all about!   ”In another Argentinean tradition, charms attached to ribbons were placed between the layers of the wedding cake, which was made by Sugar. “Each single girl pulls a ribbon, and whoever gets the ring charm is the next to marry.”

“The couple and their guests donned masks and hats for the “cotillón”—an interval of traditional Latin American merrymaking that takes place around midnight and gets guests energized for the rest of the party. “The DJ played upbeat Spanish music,” says the bride. “We had everyone on the dance floor!”  We think adding fun hats and costumes can only add to the fun!

“The reception was held in the Imperial Ballroom at Beaver Run Resort where the tables featured arrangements of crystal–bead–covered branches. The resort catered the buffet–style dinner, which included Thai, Italian, and local Colorado cuisine.”  And here is where the crystal and ice elements of the decor can be seen again.  A great way to remind guests that some of the best skiing in the world can be found near Breckenridge and is a great Colorado destination wedding option.

A Great Time DJs spun music from all over the world, including some Middle Eastern tunes for Christian’s dad, who’s originally from Egypt.”  I would absolutely ask for music important not only to the bride and groom, but to include traditional ethnic songs, dances and old traditions with a new twist somehow.  Let us know if that gets you thinking about how to bring it all together at your shindig.
